The Isle of Rum is the largest of the Small Isles  in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Rum has a population of 22 and this has remained stable since the 2001 census. The island is managed by Scottish National Heritage (SNH).

Due to the high Red Deer population, Rum is an attractive destination for stalking parties. The island is also an important site for Ecological research and many academic papers have been produced from work on Rum.

Rum is linked to the mainland by a Calmac ferry to Mallaig. The MV Sheerwater, a passenger boat which operates out of Arisaig on the mainland, also serves the Small Isles. Travelling on the Sheerwater means you are highly likely to spot some wildlife en-route.
