Rural Housing Scotland have been supporting North West Mull Community Woodland Company to explore their housing options in Dervaig and have been doing so for most of the last 10 years; A great indicator of how lengthy and challenging delivering affordable housing in ‘remote’ island communities can be.

Following a successful application to the Islands Housing Fund, NWMCWC appointed Our Island Home to produce a strong and justifiable case demonstrating the need for new affordable housing to de delivered at West Ardhu and outline how this need might be best met.

Arc Architects were appointed to investigate the site owned by NWMCWC, identify potential options for development and provided an updated version of their Our Island Home competition winning design.

The feasibility study was concluded in the Autumn of 2019 with a need for and potential options for delivering 6 affordable rent units.

NWMCWC are currently in discussion with the Scottish Government More Homes Division about making an application to the Islands Housing Fund Main Fund for development funding.
